To Mr Chesson,
Secretary London
My friend Mr Chesson, greetings to you and Ms Chesson and your children. I am not forgetful of you all.
I wish to be remembered to you all to Mr Gorst and his wife and children to Miss Weale and Mr Grace.
My friend Mr Chesson Tawhiao and I were much pleased to receive your letters with all your good wishes for Major Te Wheoro and your sympathy in his illness. He has arrived and is well. Mr Ashbury also has arrived here he came on the 14th of Feby. He spoke to us on the greatness of the English nation and of the number of its members of parliament. Perhaps the Maori tribes will be favourable to him. His talk was good. He has gone to the South of the Island.
On the 6th of Feby Mr Ballance the native minister came to Whatiwhatihoe on the 12 of March there is to be a great meeting of all the chiefs they will all come here.
I will write to you after the meeting I will not fail to let you know what is going on here and you must tell me what is going on there. Enough from your faithful friend. Wiremu Patara Tuhi Maioha.
TO Mr Chesson, London
Tawhiero to Mr Ballance. Have you sent to the Queen your disapproval of the petition which we sent to the heads of the government of the Queen of England?
Mr Ballance. Not yet. The solicitors are attending to it.
