F. W. Chesson, Esq
Secy of the Aborigines Protection Society
London
Dear Sir,
It is now a month since I arrived in Britain, and all my efforts to get your address to send the enclosed to you as per my friend Mr Rumuray of Kimberley Diamond … South Africa, have proved unavailing. The London directory even proved of no assistance. Knowing however the prominent position you hold as Secy of the Aborigines Protection Society, I take the … of entrusting the enclosed to a probable chance of you receiving them. I shall be delighted to get a … from you as to the receipt thereof.
I intend to sojourn while among my kin folk, and if I can be of any service to you or the Society in furnishing information on matters in connection with the natives of Griqualand West … I shall be happy to do so. I was agent and repve and advisor to the Griqua chief N. Waterboer of Griqualand West for 25 years prior to the annexation of Griqualand West to Her Majesty’s Government. I was the medium of correspondence and negotiation in the cession of that territory on behalf of the said chief and people, to and with H.M.G.
My address is as … in heading of letter.
Yours very truly
David Arnot
