Dear Sir,

I am very much obliged by your kind letter. Mr (Fox?) called on me yesterday – he has seen the chaplain of the Forces, and has told him of the interest the A.P. Soc. Take in the boy and will from time to time take notice of the case. But Mr. Fox does not think he can take tge little fellow from his present custodians at this time.

I represented to Mr. Fox that this boy is not like a slave, but one of a fine courageous native, and that if seemed sad that he should be destined and trained for a mess waiter, as all speak of his intelligence to be … our time, he is removed to near the officer’s quarters and is at the regimental school, and very pleased to master aa little english.

May the God of the fatherless watch over hi, and so order the tangled web which has surrounded this poor fellow that al may be overruled for good, I feel quite comforted that your Society know of his case and if at any time there is any thing I can do to help, I shall be glad.
