Dear Mr Chesson,

Mr Fuller at the Colonial Office spoke to me yesterday about the letter you had written to him respecting Te Wheoro and the alleged law against the Maoris prospecting for gold on their own land. I told Mr Fuller I thought there must be some mistake in the translation of the Chiefs’ letter. Have you the original, and if so would you kindly let me see it?
