Dear Mr Chesson,

You will be very glad to hear that I had a letter from our friend Te Wheoro this morning, dated Hobart 15 January, of which the following is a translation.

“Salutation. I have arrived here quite restored in health, and my illness has left me. The Captain was very kind to me, and great was also the kindness of all the passenger. Now I shall be fortunate enough to reach my own country, or rather the country of you and me alike. Farewell. From your loving friend, Wi Te Wheoro.”

I also had a letter from the surgeon of the ship saying  “[Maja?] Te Wheoro has quite recovered, and has enjoyed the voyage very much.”

Believe me

Yours very truly

F.D. Bell
