Dear Sir,

 

Arrived here safely on Friday last at once applied to the authorities to see the King was refused by Government orders I learn the King himself requested to see me but his request was not granted such is the treatment they call good treatment no one allowed to see him who can understand him and let the truth be known why cannot a commission of enquiry be got up and sent out to enquire into these affairs I saw the King this morning on the Walls of the Tower I saluted him from the road which runs past the walls of the Tower he know me at once and shouted out to me saying is that you Johnny on my answering yes he put his head on the wall and his hand on his mouth and remained in that position for some time I was ordered away he waving his hand to me as I went from the interpreter I learnt that he had asked to see me and was very anxious to see me I start for Natal by … Melrose today
