I wish I could come on the 23rd to join your deputation to Sir Bartle Frere. There is no man who has been a Governor and had to deal with native races, in whom I have greater confidence than in Sir B. Frere, & I should have been pleased to show him my deep respect for his character and deeds, & to show my interest in the cause of your Society, but I am too far off from London, & have too many engagements to enable me to attend.
