Dear Mr Chesson,

Another letter has just come from Africa which I enclose for you to see. I suppose Mr de Villiers thinks it will go badly unto Samuel or he would not write to Sir Wilfred Lawson. Do you see that Gabriel coming over would be of any use? I cannot see it myself. Miss Foxwell tells me she will wire when Samuel has been tried, and gives me 3 words for difficult sentences.

She tells me to arrange at the telegraph office to have the message sent to me, as she only gives a short address. Can you tell me which office I must write to and where it is, for the telegram might be there now even. My brothers are both away.

In haste,
Yours sincerely,
Elizabeth Whitfield
