Sir
I am advised to write to you on the subject of a Zulu boy who was found by the side of his dead parents at Ulundi, and brought thence by the men of the 13th regiment. The poor little fellow seems to need more judicious care than the soldiers can give, and it would be most desirable to secure for him a good education by those who understand the treatment of tropical born children.

Will you kindly advise me what courses should be pursued and if your Society can help in this case.

I hear the men of the 13th Reg are making some collection for his support . You will probably hear from Mr Reed Secretary of the Young Men’s Christian Assn but as he is much engaged I write, as the poor fellow may be contracting habits wh it will be very difficult to eradicate if not removed from Plymouth.

I am
Sir
You … Sert
F Barrett

An immediate reply will greatly oblige.
