Many thanks for so kindly sending me a copy of the Chiefs’ memorial. I only wish they had let me see it before they sent it in, for there are many colonists who feel, as I have done all my life, a very strong attachment to the Maori people, and they will be sorry to see some of the statements the memorial contains.
