I read with interest your letter today in the Times on St Lucia Bay. With your view I quite agree and have indeed expressed them in my paper on African colonies now in the press. A British Protectorate alone can save us from a German annexation. The Germans will not leave to their fate the German missionaries if we do so and they will insist on their rights of property at St Lucia Bay. I hope something may be done to help those poor [starving?] Zulus.
I have a letter from Mr [Alander?] of Paris of much interest and value. If there is to be colonization the friends of the Aborigines must see to it that it is for the advancement of the natives and that as an ultimate security raised to the franchise.
