Dear Sir,

I read your letter on Zululand in the Times today with great interest and I quite agree with all your views. The statement signed by Dinuzulu is of great value. I feel so grateful also that Mr [Forster’s?] able speech has been so favourably received. It is life or death with us to hold Bechuanaland and as a Crown Territory it is a noble chance of furthering the Aborigines cause. … that I did not know of the breakfast or I should have been present at it. I hope to remain in London till January when I may return to Oxford but I shall be obliged if you inform me of any meetings in support of S Africa and the Aborigines cause. I may be absent for a short time at … the West Scottish Coast but I am desirous of doing all I can to help the native African cause.

Yours truly
JE Carlyle
