Sir,

I am directed by the Earl of Derby to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of yesterday transmitting a copy of the memorial of the Maori Chiefs now in England.

His Lordship desires me to state that he will be happy to receive the Maori Chiefs at this office at 3pm on Tuesday next, and that he has so informed Mr Gorst MP who had proposed to be present on the occasion and to introduce the chiefs.
