My friend Mr Chesson Tawhiao and I were much pleased to receive your letters with all your good wishes for Major Te Wheoro and your sympathy in his illness. He has arrived and is well. Mr Ashbury also has arrived here he came on the 14th of Feby. He spoke to us on the greatness of the English nation and of the number of its members of parliament. Perhaps the Maori tribes will be favourable to him. His talk was good. He has gone to the South of the Island. On the 6th of Feby Mr Ballance the native minister came to Whatiwhatihoe on the 12 of March there is to be a great meeting of all the chiefs they will all come here.
